Re: LS3020 drivers?

I've just had exactly the same problem as Mat. I've not actually used my laser cutter all over winter and my workshop's been littered with electronics and other junk, but when I came to fire it up this evening, my host PC died. I plugged my (Windows 7 32-bit) laptop in, installed the same software M...

Re: A3 Mirror acrylic for sale at cost

I made a clock for a guy leaving our boules/petanque club and got inundated with requests for clock trophies! http://nerdclub-uk.blogspot.com/2011/07/laser-cutting-magic-clock.html I threw it together in a few hours one night (although getting the spiral hand the right size/curve was a pain). The mi...

Re: Material for stencils?

I too am looking for material to make solder paste stencils from (see http://www.nerdclub.co.uk for my latest PCB manufacturing attempts!) When I searched for mylar on eBay I got a whole load of hydroponic reflective sheets. Is this the stuff? Does reflective material cut well in a laser cutter? Or ...

burning on reverse side

Thanks to you guys, I'm slowly gaining confidence with my new LS3020 and am thrilled with the results. One thing I'd like to improve, though, is the appearance of my 3mm and 5mm acrylic shapes which have "burn marks" or "backsplash" on the reverse. It's as if the laser is reflect...

pop art acrylic shapes

Like most people I guess, I got my new laser cutter up and running and have gone mad with ideas. I thought I'd share one here, in case anyone else finds it useful - it's an easy way of bitmaps artwork into monochrome vectors for cutting out shapes. What use is that to anyone? I used to offer "p...

Re: Box maker

They might be bezier curves. I assumed splines because about 200 control points can get condensed into just four or five, with nice smooth curves between each. I spent weeks trying to create splines from a series of control points for an online drawing editor written in Flash/Actionscript. Actually ...

Re: Box maker

I use Inkscape for my dxf files. It can open loads of different file formats but the pdf import is brilliant. I discovered today that there's a difference between wmf and dxf when importing into NewlyDraw. This is despite both being "vector" image formats. I was surprised when my new LS302...

Re: Newbie with a 3020

YAY! Cutting at last! I opened all the doors (including the control panel, CO2 tube cover and the top/main door) locked and unlocked everything then tried again. There was a high-pitched whine and the needle flicked over to 15mA and a little puff of smoke. I'm now cutting out little circles from 3mm...

Re: Newbie with a 3020

The machine was working when it was at the showroom - but Chris had it running with a magnet against the door lock switch, so it could run with the lid open. I'll isolate, check the other doors and so on and try again. There is a little round disk on the opening bit of the lid, and when the lid is c...

Re: Newbie with a 3020

Door is shut, tried toggling the red laser switch.
Still nothing. :(
