Re: Annoying LaserCut 5.3 glitch
Not sure if this might be related to the problem... The controller board (so presumably LaserCut itself) only recognises the ancient DOS file-naming standard - only allowed 8 upper case characters for the file name, followed by the 'dot' and file type. Names that don't fit that pattern will be abbre...

Re: Cutting and scoring ABS
One little word of warning regarding line bending... We've been bending parts for a while for one of our product ranges, using a strip heater on 5mm acrylic. Seemed great - 2m drop tests onto concrete no problem, and even our burliest storeman couldn't snap them! Hmm, or maybe not. About 6 months la...

Re: Having to buy a Windows Laptop
Yes, good point, Tom - we've had trouble sometimes with that. If running from a laptop, it's worth running it off the power supply, then take a peek at the power saving settings in the Control Panel - you can usually set things up so that the power saving stuff only kicks in if you're running off th...

Re: Living Hinge Design
DesignSpark Mechanical is free from RS - a parametric modeller based on the pro' SpaceClaim software. Not used it a huge amount yet, but so far I've found it pretty easy going compared to some of the other 3D software I've used. Not sure what the rules are if used for commercial work, so you might w...

Re: cleaning up acrylic
Further to what Dave has said - if you are working commercially, don't forget to advise your customers about cleaning appropriately! Just recently we got back some returns - well over 6months after the customer purchased the product. All of them had become extremely brittle at places where we had be...

Re: Cutting 3mm perspex
I would second what Dave says. 3mm acrylic is pretty much our standard material, and (allowing for the different tube in our 6090), his suggested settings tally with what we use. The ramp test is very simple - just cut a simple shape over and over from, say, 10mm below where you'd normally focus, ra...

Hi Ben, Tried translating your error message using an online chinese character finder - the two characters on the right mean "failed", so I guess it's probably not saying anything that you don't already know! Based on similar experiences here in the past, you could try the following couple...

Re: My DFX file is not opening fully in lasercut
Hi Michael, We use Corel here too, albeit we're still on the old version 12! I've quite often found Corel's DXF exports to be a bit flaky, with several other applications besides LaserCut too. In fact, it seems whatever format you use, there will be the occasional drawing that makes LaserCut spit it...
