Re: Using your laser as a line bender

That's a great idea, I can see uses for that.

These people have used a similar technique to achieve some spectacular effects. Needs an automated Z axis:

Re: Engraving deeper at same temp.

Hmmm, the experts have been quiet today so maybe I should chip in! I've not had this problem, but from my experience your scan gap looks very small. With those settings engraving the plaque pictured must take days! I think you may be going over the same area of hot acrylic again and again as the sca...

An idea for the tinkerers or the manufacturers?

While cleaning my optics (in an LS6840) it occurred to me that the aperture in the head below the lens is continuously pressurised by the air assist, so no smoke or debris can get in. The aperture above the head doesn't have this, so gunk can easily drift in and settle on the mirror and particularly...

Re: Laser script cut/hole/engrave/hole engrav

In contrast to Daven, I do use Coreldraw (Version X4) and don't use Lasercut (apart from the Coreldraw plugin) so I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of that software (and pretty new to Coreldraw to be honest). The way it works in Coreldraw is that you create your design in Coreldraw, then click ...

Re: Best wood for engraving & cutting

I just came across this on another forum: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?194546-Paint-for-filling-engravings-on-wood (In brief, it's about engraving wood, filling the engraved holes with a coloured material and cleaning off the unengraved surface). Interesting ideas. It might be the answ...

Re: Best wood for engraving & cutting

Sounds like a familiar problem. If you're like me you're also looking for something that can engrave quickly, looks attractive and doesn't cost much! If you play with different settings you should be able to get a dark engrave on laser ply. I've got a series of test files I run on every new material...

Re: Is my Lasercut 5.3 Haunted?!

Some good news on this one. I saved the Coreldraw file that was causing problems in a new directory, clicked 'Laser Output' and it worked perfectly. If there's a ghost that suggests it must be hiding in the various files that get created automatically alongside the Coreldraw file. However, when I go...

Re: Hello from Cardiff

Thanks for the welcomes folks! I was wondering chillers people were using. There's an old post somewhere from johnb80 (who seems to have disappeared) describing an improvised version which looked interesting but if I wasn't using purpose built kit I'd want to be very careful not to risk putting icy ...

Is my Lasercut 5.3 Haunted?!

I've had a LS 6040 since July, which I'm using with Coreldraw X4, Lasercut 5.3 running on Windows XP. I'm finding the software a bit temperamental. Sometimes I get a 'Softdog no same' error or a failure of the PC to connect to the machine, I try a few reboots and unplugging / replugging, rub it with...

Hello from Cardiff

I've had my LS6840 since the end of July, since when I've been learning how to use it, finding problems, finding solutions, getting distracted, developing designs, making smoke, making scrap and some progress. What I've not done is spent much time on the forums, but now I've found my password and fo...
