Re: Machining operations on a 3040

If I remember right (and assuming it's the same as our bigger machine)... Gradient = Like an engrave but with sloping sides (and usually deeper). I think it's used for making rubber stamps and that kind of thing. Holes = A 'dotted' cut made of little holes, like the perforations between sheets of lo...

Re: Engraving a line

Hi Nigel, To get an engraved line to work, it will always need to be an enclosed shape with some drawn "thickness" - so to engrave a straight line, you effectively need to draw a long, narrow box. Line thicknesses in Corel do not translate into the Laser software, as they only define 'path...

I would second that - it has worked well for us even with the stinky gloop from cutting ABS.

Re: laser cutting out mid cut

First thing I would check is your cooling system - two things in particular... 1) No air bubbles trapped in the cooling water - particularly in the glass 'jacket' around the laser tube. Bubbles around the mirror (opposite end to where the laser beam comes out) can lead to very rapid deterioration of...

Re: PET G

Hi There, We have done some tests using PETG, as it was offered to us cheaper than the equivalent acrylic - and we found that it is not half as nice to work with... It will cut reliably, however compared to acrylic... 1) Cut edges will scorch - nasty brown colouring of the edges that cannot be remov...

Re: laser stays on...

Also, the cut lines leave a ghost/thin engraved line about 5mm below and to the right of the cut line(s). As PhillyDee suggests, most likely you need to re-align your mirrors - the second 'beam' is most often caused by the laser beam hitting the edge of the circular hole in the end of the cutting h...

Re: Odd symptoms. Input please!!!!

An odd shaped beam 'profile' at the first mirror certainly sounds like a tube problem - but there is still a chance that it is just debris at the lens end of the tube (tricky to clean and often forgotten). Take a look at This Thread - some really good tips there for diagnosing tube problems, and the...

Re: Meniscus Lens surface gone?

Looks very much like the way our first lens went eventually. It's perfectly natural for the lens coatings to deteriorate over time - after all, they have a lot of Watts passing through them! Having a spare set of optics is always a good idea just in case the worse happens - but when we got ours we d...

Re: Aligment problems - Any masterclass on this?

I found this YouTube video a useful reference when I started having to maintain our machine... Laser engraving setup and alignment video ...the part about aligning your beam starts about 6 minutes or so in. I'd also add... - The guy in the video uses masking tape to show his 'reference shots'. Not g...

Re: LS3020 - Engraves but will not cut

I'm focussing the laser the supplied ruler distance from the bottom of the head that outputs the laser. Is this correct? We use a slightly different machine, but on ours the focus distance is measured from the position of the actual lens, which is some way inside the "nozzle". From your d...
