A quick way round the offset issue, cut the main from xyz wood one way up. then run the infill face down with the beam a tiny touch higher than normal focal length(play about till it's right), that will give a tapered cut in the z axis (verticle) and make the parts fit in on the taper angle :) best...

Just repeating what has already been said but that is truly excellent work Bob.

Just a thought, but you have tested that engraving laminate to make sure it doesn't contain any PVC before you put it into your laser ?
