Jagged edges on angles

Post by TimBobTastic »

Hi Everyone

My 3060 is a couple of years old now and I am starting to notice jagged edges when cutting 6mm ply either at an angle or large radii.

I have cleaned and oiled the slideways and checked they run freely.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards
Tim.

HPC were really helpful when I called them about this. I forget the name of the guy I spoke to but he explained what could be the causes and some possible fixes.

I tried adjusting the tension in the X and Y axis belts a little, which reduced the problem a little but did not eliminate it.

I realised there were idler roller at the end of each axis and that the bearings mad be clogged and dirty... This ended up being the root cause of the problem. The Y-axis idler bearings are easy to remove, but not so easy to re-fit. But, I removed them, cleaned them in a light oil and reassembled them. (I think the bearings will need to be replaced soon, but this fix keeps me running). A test cut reassured my my machine was cutting square and that all angled edges and radii were smooth... just like when the machine was new!

For completeness, I then cleaned the single X-axis idler and adjusted the linear bearing a little to reduce a small amount of wobble I noticed in the head. All in all a few hours spent on maintenance has made a massive difference in the quality of my machines output.

A word of warning.... The Y-axis idler rollers are not easy to replace, it took me much longer than I anticipated, causing frustration :x , annoyance :x and the occasional expletive

I would not recommend this to anyone who has a short fuse or is not confident in their ability. I am usually very relaxed and laid back about these things and have repaired everything from pre-war manual lathes to new multi axis CNC machining centres, but those damn Y-axis idlers :x :x :x nearly got the better of me :o :o .
