Stroke in AI

Post by bowen73 »

Hi all

I'm new to laser and got my first laserscript a couple of weeks ago and hit a little snag that I can't seem to get around!

I create my artwork in adobe illustrator, this particular one is text. I set the text how I want, give a stoke to thicken the font up then 'create outlines' so it no longer see's it as a font.

Then I move the letters around individually so they overlap, then when I'm happy I goto he pathfinder and merge. when I do this it removes the stroke so now the text is no longer overlapping?! I've also tried adding a stroke in afterward then import it into the laserscript software but its not seeing it as one block of text?? if I cut out with the laser I'll have letters that are separate instead of all merged together, Please help!

thats ok. i found a way.

If anyone else is interested and uses AI:

Object > Expand Appearance Then Object > Expand

Converts all strokes to shapes. Makes all Appearance Panel settings expanded to objects.

Then use the Merge button on the Pathfinder Panel to basically remove any construction areas which are not visible.
